While most professional security systems require extensive cabling, the DS-KIS603 is frequently categorized as "wireless" in a residential context for several key reasons:
Both the outdoor door station and the indoor monitor have built-in Wi-Fi. This means they do not need a physical Ethernet cable (data cable) to communicate with your home router. As long as you have a strong Wi-Fi signal at your gate and inside your house, the units can talk to each other and connect to the internet wirelessly.
The system is "wireless" in the sense that your "monitor" moves with you. Through the Hik-Connect app, your smartphone becomes a wireless extension of the intercom. You can receive video calls, speak to visitors, and unlock your gate from your phone while sitting in your backyard or even when you are away from home.
If you choose not to use Wi-Fi, the system supports Standard PoE. This allows a single network cable to provide both power and data. This "one-cable" solution is much simpler than traditional systems that required separate power, video, and audio wires, making the physical footprint of the installation nearly invisible.
The system can be integrated with electronic locks, allowing you to trigger the door release wirelessly from the indoor touch screen or your mobile app, removing the need to walk to the door to let someone in.
